After the busy weekend schedule, Monday opens with students smartly and meticulously dressed in their school uniforms. Lessons commence at 7:20am and continue up to 10:00am, when the bell rings for a 30-minute break.
After the break is over, students assemble at the school main hall. West wing students walk from their wing to East wing to attend the morning assembly. Students seat themselves in a pattern of rows and columns, meanwhile soft music wafts from the entertainment corner. Teachers arrive one at a time, until finally the head teacher and top administrators step through the doorway. They are comprised of the Deputy Head teachers I and II, Assistant Head teachers I and II, and the Director of Studies and Assistant Director of Studies. Students stand up for the formal start of the assembly, which starts with the national anthem, East African anthem, school anthem and finally the prayer led by the school chaplain.
During some Monday’s assemblies the writer’s club is given the opportunity to read new articles about what happens in and around the college. The student leaders‘ representative then addresses the assembly on issues that affect the students, especially their academics and discipline.
As soon as the Head teacher takes his seat, the master of ceremonies, who is usually a student, reads the agenda. During some Monday’s assemblies the writer’s club is given an opportunity to read new articles about what happens in and around the college. The student leaders’ representative then addresses the assembly on issues that affect the students, especially their academics and discipline. The Head teacher addresses the students on what is expected of them during that week. The assembly ends with a prayer led by the chaplain. Students parade jubilantly out of the main hall to prepare for their optional lessons as the West wing students parade back to their wing.
I am proud to be a student of Teso College Aloet.
